Temporary Health Insurance
July 8th, 2010Author: JohnFor those who aren’t currently covered by a traditional health insurance plan, short term health insurance is a great way to protect yourself while you are between plans. Offering valuable coverage for unexpected illness or injury, these plans are designed to meet anyone’s budget and unique needs.
Temporary health insurance is designed for those who don’t currently have access to a major plan. This can include those who are unemployed, temporary workers, recent graduates and newly employed individuals who are waiting for coverage from their new employer. These plans offer a great alternative to long waiting periods for enrollment in a traditional plan to take effect.
Designed to meet the needs of many different financial situations, temporary insurance plans offer flexibility with payment and a choice of deductible and co-insurance options. Plans can be purchased for 30 days to 360 days (varies by state), with coverage beginning the next day. Payment can be made on a month-by-month basis, or you can save 20% by paying a one-time payment.
Being uninsured is a bad idea in today’s economy. Should you become sick or injured, the medical bills that you would have to pay out of pocket could result in a high amount of debt for you and your family. With short term health insurance, you can rest assured that you will be protected in case of an emergency.
Depending on how much you are able to pay for short term insurance, there are two different options available. The Short Term Medical Plan offers the most coverage, including emergency doctor visits, hospital stays and prescription drugs benefits. The Healthsaver Limited-Benefit plan offers similar coverage, but requires additional fees for emergency room visits, inpatient hospital stays and surgeries. Although this plan may offer less coverage, it is still a better alternative than not being insured.
With Temporary health insurance, you have the freedom to choose your own doctors and hospitals. These plans cover your emergency medical expenses once your deductible, coinsurance, and all applicable fees have been met.
It can be stressful to be unemployed and without health insurance. Constantly worrying about what might happen should you become sick or injured is not good for you or your family. With short term medical insurance, you can rest easy that you will be protected.
It’s important to protect yourself when you don’t have access to a traditional health insurance plan. Purchasing temporary insurance is the best way to make sure you will be covered in case of emergency and can protect you from future debt that can result from high medical bills.
